"Every single day, 30,000 children die, needlessly, of extreme poverty.

On July 6th, we finally have the opportunity to stop that shameful statistic.

8 world leaders, gathered in Scotland for the G8 summit, will be presented with a workable plan to double aid, drop the debt and make the trade laws fair. If these 8 men agree, then we will become the generation that made poverty history."

To:
The 8 most powerful leaders in the world

50,000 people are dying, needlessly, every day of extreme poverty.

At this year's G8 summit meeting, it is within your power to put an end to this tragedy. It is an extraordinary opportunity which it would be shameful to ignore. We urge you to take these 3 steps to make extreme poverty history...

  1. double the aid sent to the world's poorest countries,
  2. fully cancel their debts,
  3. change the trade laws so that they can build their own future.

Just found out about this because I've been out of it for quite a long time now. Being somewhat of the human rights idealist that I am, I feel this is a good cause. Yes, it might be a long shot, but we have to start somewhere. Indeed, doubling aid might not help until a better system of governing is put into place in these countries, but allowing them to start with a clean slate is a good place as any. Something that's worth fighting for, perhaps? You can sign the petition here. Hurry though, you only have 2 more days.

"I'm tired too. But we keep fighting."

Love, Wan
