i was just thinking- perhaps peggy was right. children are a joy to be with. "little children are visible angels to mankind" and all. they always do things to surprise you. and somehow, they're able to lift one's mood no matter how bad a day it's been with just one smile.

she once said that people who work with children are generally a pretty happy bunch. is it true? i look at my classmates, and i say absolutely. sure, we have our share of depressed moments, but they never seem to last very long. maybe it's the kids, or maybe we just happen to have an inborn sunny disposition.

and then one thinks about the horror stories of child abuse and neglect that sadly enough does happen in some centres, and you can't help but wonder about that theory.

essentially, what drives people to do such horrible things to children? yes, they did something wrong but is it not one's job as an early childhood educator to teach the difference between right and wrong? two wrongs don't make a right. it simply doesn't add up.

i suppose at the end of the day, what scares me the most is that i might end up being a lousy, cynical tyrant instead of the happy, patient, nurturing figure children need in their lives.
